Osama Wasn't Devout. Please!

I think I will scream the next time I hear someone say that Osama was a devout Muslim.

Dear non-Muslim friends, Islam does NOT condone the killing of innocent people.
Please don't ever mistake Osama for a devout Muslim.
If there was any truth to that I wouldn't choose to remain Muslim.
Yes, I, a Western-educated, peace-loving human being, choose to be a practicing follower of Islam.
Not the Islam you see in the media,
but the Islam I've come to love through my own initiative
and through the beauty of the Holy Qur'an.
Most of all, through God's blessings.

Being a Muslim is a choice I make every single day
and I'm proud of my faith
whether you like it or not.

"On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our apostles with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land."
{Surah al Maidah, verse 32}

Osama was psycho! That's what he was. I

t scares me that such a person could walk on earth. And to think that there's probably more of people like him.

I agree 100% with you Sister.
Islam means peace, every problem should be be solved by "musyuarah".
There is this hadis that says...no Muslims would do bad things like, stealing, drinking alcohol or kill a person unless his/her IMAN has left his body.

Maybe he was devout, maybe he wasn't - not ours to judge. We didn't know his life & what's he'd been through.I'm not his fans, I'm moderate, I live between west and east,I'm a moslem - practising & trying to be devout.

Salam sha. We all really don't know who he really was. What we all see and hear about him is controlled by the media, which we know feed us with constant lies. There are a few sides to the story of his life. Personally, i think we should leave it between him n God. Talking about him and all the controversies surrounding him won't make anything better, or us better either..

It's true, only God knows best about who Osama really was but as one of the Anons said, us Muslims keeping silent about sinful and atrocious behaviour (e.g. the killing of innocent people) doesn't make it better. In fact, non-Muslims are constantly saying we don't speak up enough against terrorism. Sometimes it frustrates me because obviously I am against it! Do I need to write it on my forehead for people to know that? I guess with so many misconceptions I suppose so.

There's no place for terrorism in Islam - regardless of who is responsible for it.

With the assumption that Osama and Al Qaeda were responsible for ANY of the terrorist and bombing attacks we have heard of then I think Muslims must openly declare that they do not support terrorism.

For now, we don't know the absolute truth but based on what we've seen through the media (and not only Western media) Osama DOES NOT portray the image of a good Muslim. Yes his deeds are between him and God but it's not like I'm saying he didn't pray 5 times a day because how can you claim to worship God and follow Islamic law when you harm innocent people at the same time? Big contradiction. That's all I can say.

True. There definitely is no place for terrorism in Islam. I just don't like to believe all the stories they feed us with. For all we know, it's all made up. They like provoking us muslims. They attack, then when we attack back at them, they say they have the right to defend themselves and goes on a killing spree. It could have been the same with osama too None of us know what really happened. How sure are we that al-Qaeda or osama was behind all the terrorist attacks on civilians? It was on tv, and broadcasted all over the world so that we hear about it the way they want us to. But one thing is for sure, violence and killing of innocent lives is not Islam. I don't support violence. I don't support osama or what is potrayed of him. I'm just saying that maybe, it's all just a conspiracy to divide muslims even more and tarnish our religion.

I understand the point you are trying to make, Asielah. There's so much mystery behind 9/11 and Osama's death (plus America getting credit for it) didn't solve anything. There are more questions than ever. We can't trust the media completely but we can't dismiss everything we see as well. I think in all the deceit there are clues to the truth.
