2013

Assalamualaykum (Peace be upon you).

A belated happy new year to each and every one of you! I pray 2013 will be a year of peace, reconciliation and hope, inshaAllah (God willing), after what we have witnessed in our own homelands and in other parts of the world in 2012.

2012 was a year of reflection for me. I do believe it's important to take time out from what we usually do in order for us to reflect on why we do what we do and who we really want to be. Fortunately for me I had an entire year to do this. Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God).

Anyway, this time around my family and I celebrated New Year's in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city. We had never done that before because my family usually likes to avoid the craziness but I somehow convinced them that we should do it at least once. We stayed in a hotel for the night and had our New Year's dinner at Naab Persian Restaurant (Bukit Bintang branch). Whenever I say Persian I try not to say it like Maz Jobrani does in this video but it's just... too... hard.. to resist.

Appetisers: Complimentary lemonade, tabbouleh, kashk-o-bademjan (sauteed eggplants blended with dried yoghurt plus fried garlic, onion and mint and a dollop of cream), traditional Iranian tea

Mains, drinks and dessert: I forgot to take a picture of the lamb shank and chicken we ordered but here's the Sultani kebab, barberry rice, dill rice, baklavasekanjebin (sweet and sour drink made of vinegar, mint and shredded cucumber - I didn't know there was vinegar in it until I read the online menu!), doogh (traditional Iranian yoghurt drink)

What's our verdict on Naab? Persian food is super delicious alhamdulillah! The chicken was a tad dry and the baklava wasn't to my liking but everything else was great. If you go you must try the kashk-o-bademjan. I know that's the first thing I'll order when we go there again to enjoy good quality food and service.

While waiting for the countdown and fireworks this was going on outside the restaurant.
